  Dear Susan
I am a pscy nurse and read your heartfelt prayer request for your brother. It does sound as is he is reaching his bottom of the barrel in life. I dont know how the laws work in Texas but in Indiana I would have him file for disability it is not easy to get right away but if he is patient he could qualify. Also see what free treatment is available I would think he needs to try an antidepressant for a short time until he is feeling better. I know it is easy to say believe in God which of course I do and in prayer I will also pray for your brother but alcoholism is a disease just like cancer and requires medication for treatment. Im sorry about his wife tool Does he have a place to live?
I hope this helps some. praying for you and your brother..Susan

The psych. unit should be able to provide him with a social worker who could assist him in getting on some sort of state aid/medical program, in addition to enrolling him in an alcohol/drug rehab program.

Hello everyone. I need prayer and some suggestions on how I can get some financial assistance for my brother who is 51 years of age. He lost his wife 1 year ago and has never been able to get over her lost. He also has an alcohol abuse problem. At about the same time he was in an automobile accident and had to have shoulder surgery and hasn't been able to work. So he doesn't have any health insurance. Last week I had to call 911 b/c he was suicidal and is now in a psy unit. He may be getting out in a few days but I believe he needs to go through a drug and alcohol detox program. He lives in Texas and all of his brothers and sisters live out of state. He only has one daughter who lives in Texas but she is only in her early 20's and doesn't really know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all. Susan
